The Civil War Experience
Across North Carolina and throughout the South, museums and historic sites are commemorating the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Civil War, also known as the War Between the States. The Museum & Archives of Rockingham County (MARC) is following suit. The MARC will commemorate the event with an event for the family and the opening of MARC?s new Civil War exhibit. See the new exhibit. Watch artillery demonstrations and infantry drills on the museum green. Visit the 11th VA Co. G Lynchburg Home Guard camp, Wright Tavern Historic Site and Alexander?s Battalion Field Hospital. Sample hearth cooking in the antebellum kitchen and sweets on the museum green. Enjoy costumed interpreters, parades, games for the kids, music from the era and much, much more. If you have pictures of ancestors that served, bring them with you. Historians will be available to help you identify regiments, family connections and other interesting tidbits. We are looking for pictures to include in the exhibit. Maybe yours will be one of them. This event is sponsored by the Town of Wentworth and the MARC.
